Botox®
What Are Neurotoxins?
Botox® and other neurotoxins are derived from a bacteria called Clostridium botulinum. They are found in soil and in contaminated food. There are many types of the toxin but the A type is used for medical injections and is produced in labs. Specifically, it blocks acetylcholine (a transmitter) at the junctions of nerves and muscles. This causes the muscles to stop contracting.
How will it make you look younger?
The toxin causes relaxation of muscles under the skin for a prolonged period of time (3-6 months). Cosmetically, this results in smoothing of wrinkles in the and a younger appearance.
